Tomohiro Nakagaki is a designer and artist based in Tokyo.
For his great goal to become a painter he quit school. Besides working at night in his atelier he had a bread winning job in a shoe store at daytime. There he developed his passion for leather. He soon started designing shoes paying in particular attention to the colors. He learned the traditional shoemaking skills from a renown Italian shoe designer and applied the dying techniques he learned as a painter to the leather he used.
Tomohiro launched his brand “ameno spazio” in 2006. ameno spazio, characterized by the combination of traditional European shoe making art with unique color designs and the typical Japanese dedication to perfect even the tiniest details, quickly became popular within the Tokyo art scene. The often custom tailored shoes, bags and accessories started to be worn by actors and celebrities in various Japanese movies and TV series (including such big names as Mitsuo Oikawa, Yosuke Eguchi, Takao Osawa, Susumu Terashima, Eiji Okuda). All products are produced by hand. So far they could only be purchased on Tokyo´s high street Ginza.
In July 2010 Tomohiro will take his brands to Europe for the first time, presenting his new collection called ‘Yuhaku’
( ユハク) at Premium, the exhibition for high quality and exclusive fashion in Berlin.
